SLO Submission and Late Start
Staff,
On Friday, I sent out the data roll through sheets for grade levels. Our roll through is this Tuesday. SPED teachers please have your AIMSWeb progress monitoring reading data available for our 8am meeting, and classroom teachers bring your running records/anecdotal guided reading notes and other reading assessment data to your meeting time.
A reminder to hit submit on your SLO Mid-Interval Review prior to Wednesday, February 1st. Staff members on cycle for evaluation, please schedule a 15 minute review with me through Sue. I have times available starting at 8:45am on our late start this Thursday.
Prior to the mid year SLO review meetings, we will be having a staff meeting at 8:05am in the 3rd grade computer lab. Teachers please log into a computer as soon as you get to school, and click on the link below to the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers practice tests. As a staff you'll take one of the ELA practice tests for 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. The purpose behind taking one of these practice tests is to continue to learn more about the rigor of the common core so you can better prepare your students. While taking the assessment, I want you to reflect on how you can utilize what you've learned and apply it within your mini-lessons, guided reading and how students respond to what they've read.

End of the Assessment Window and January 23rd PD
Staff,
A couple of reminders regarding the informal assessment window that ends this Friday. For data collection and progress monitoring purposes, record the lowest instructional level. Again here is the Assessment Calendar for your review, and your updated scores need to be uploaded into Skyward by the end of the day on Friday. Even though you are recording the lowest instructional level, you may be finding the upper level of the range for certain students to support their growth and to stretch them as readers. Below is the schedule for your PD on January 23rd. There could still be some adjustments made to this plan. At the bottom of this blog, I have included some Jan Richardson guided reading videos you may want to revisit when working on your guided reading lesson planning.

Staff Meeting and PLC Work
Staff,
At our staff meeting on Tuesday breakfast will be provided by UW Superior and their graduate program. Chris Strop will give an update on the PBIS Self Assessment Survey we took as a staff. This assessment is used to identify staff perception of the implementation status and improvement priority for our PBIS system. Results of the SAS are effective in identifying the staff priorities for next steps around PBIS.
During our PLC portion of the staff meeting, I will review a couple protocols available for teams to use around peer observations during this second trimester after baseline assessments are completed and your lesson planning around the essential learning has begun: Peer Learning Lab Classroom Protocol and Lesson Study.

Happy New Year
Staff,
I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday after a well deserved break. During the month of January there are a lot of items for you to remember.
We have an All School Meeting this Friday at 2:50pm. Over break we had a couple building projects happening: the new sound system installed in the gym and the demolition was completed in the media center bathrooms. These bathrooms will be closed until the remodeling is finished.
Your next instructional reading level update (recording the lowest instructional level) is coming Friday, January 20th. See Assessment Calendar for details. Remember this informal update is based off of your running records, anecdotal notes or comprehension interview. The data collected is important because we have our next big data roll through progress monitoring on Tuesday, January 31st. I am getting subs on this day to extend these meetings to one hour around grade level's common planning time using the format we used during our October Data Day. I will send this schedule out to teams later this week. Again another reason for this new format is so we can have more staff together to problem solve around closing gaps for some of our underperforming groups.
Monday, January 23rd is a professional development day with most certified staff starting the day at Hudson Prairie for PD around the new everyday math curriculum, revisiting running records (primary grades) and Integrated Units of Inquiry (intermediate grades). This PD will be during the am with time in the the pm for most certified staff to work on their SLO-Mid Interval Review.
Remember to upload your mid year SLO data as a file. This is another reason it is so important to have your instructional reading data uploaded in Skyward by January 20th so you have it to work on your SLO in the afternoon of January 23rd. When you have completed it please hit the submit button no later than January 31st. Grade level teachers also review your actions and/or goals you've set for students in special education to assess the plan you've made to maximize their access tier one guarantees.
